Lexie is an amazing young model represented by Ursula Wiedmann Models (UWM) here in Atlanta. She and her mother came by the studio recently for a multi look session with me and hair/makeup artist Grace Armas. This was a three hour session from setup to tear down, including hair and makeup. During that time we were able to fit in some clean beauty head shots and multiple wardrobe changes such as this soft hooded sweater, some fur and a beautiful patterned dress to finish up.
I've worked with Dillan a number of times this year and he's one of the nicest guys you could ever have at a shoot. He came out for a recent outdoor session at Arabia Mountain and here are a few single selections from his set. He stays busy concentrating on his acting and modeling career in addition to his own passion as a photographer, so I was very happy that he took time for this shoot.
I'm always thinking up photo ideas that I want to explore and I've been wanting to do a series of portraits with a mystic feel for quite a while. I was recently on a shoot with two amazing models at a great location and couldn't help but work these in. Working with strobes outdoors gives so much flexibility to balance out, or even overpower the natural sunlight. That's exactly what we did here.
This series was shot at around 11:30am on a partly cloudy day. Natural light is pretty harsh at this time of day so to compensate, I underexposed the background and the model is lit with a strobe in a 35" octabox just off camera. For the shot with the two of them, the main light is set on Dianna and there is a hand-held diffused speed light on Dillan. The foggy, misty look was enhanced in post.

Here are a few of my favorites from an outdoor session with Dianna Grant, represented here in Atlanta by Ursula Wiedmann Models (UWM). For this session we had a 6:30am call time and nearly a 1-mile hike from the cars to our shooting location. Hair, makeup and wardrobe assistance was done on site by Grace Armas.
We recently worked with actor and singer Sharon Leal to shoot editorial promotional portraits leading up to the release of her new single Giant and the feature film Addicted. The request was for a studio look but with Sharon's busy filming schedule we decided to mimic a studio setup on location.
Addicted, a film based on the novel by Zane, hit theaters on October 10th. Sharon Leal's EP featuring the single Giant is available for pre-order on iTunes.
Blake Ballard is one of the hardest working people in Atlanta and is currently signed with agent Ursula Wiedmann Models (UWM), among others. Styled by Olivia Hargrove, we spent three hours experimenting with light, bright powdered chalk, some glitter and a very neon sweater.
We recently wrapped an amazing half-day editorial shoot with actress/model Christina Zangas from CLICK Models of Atlanta and J Pervis Talent. From planning to file delivery this shoot was as efficient as any I've done. Working with Christina was a blast, and a big thanks goes out to the great work by Grace Armas Hair and Makeup Design.
I originally met Destiny on a commercial shoot. Shortly after she contacted me to set up a personal shoot for new head shots and posing looks to update her modeling portfolio. I asked if she was thinking studio or location, after seeing some of my recent studio work she felt this would be a good addition to her book.
Scott Quarterman, owner of eHolster, called on me recently to organize a product photo shoot to update his marketing materials. Based on his description of what he needed I worked up a proposal for a half-day shoot. We started in the studio focussing on clean detail product shots, then finished up outdoors so he could have some out-and-about lifestyle images featuring his products.
Max DiNatale came by the studio to fit in some editorial fashion looks while he was in town for a product shoot. After looking at his past work I was a little intimidated wondering what I was going to give him that he didn't already have. So I decided it best to just light and shoot the way I always do and here are a few of the shots we came away with.
Joyce Larioza is a very talented model getting most of her work through her agencies here in Atlanta and LA. We originally set up a two hour session because she was looking for some clean, updated headshots for her talent listings. I showed her some of my recent portrait work and she decided to fit some of that into our studio time. I'm really glad she did, I think this is one of my favorite sets so far. More of Joyce's work can be seen on her talent website.
Robert contacted me a few months back about doing some promo portraits for a couple of single releases he and his band are working on. We originally discussed doing an outdoor shoot, and hopefully will do that in the near future, but opted to use Robert's home studio as a setting for this session. When I arrived and took a look around I couldn't help but think "this is perfect!" Some of the most interesting portraits are taken in someone's own personal space, it represents them so much better than any neutral setting would. That's how Robert's studio felt to me. You can check out their single Ode to 911 on iTunes.
I’ve had the privilege of doing promotional photography for a lot of great talent lately. Among my favorite jobs are actor’s and model’s portfolio shoots, especially when there is some room for a dramatic and edgy approach.
Dillan reviewed a recent shoot that I had done and felt this look would suit his book well. He took my wardrobe recommendations perfectly and showed up ready to shoot. I am really, really happy with the set as a whole, Dillan ended up with a lot of options to add to his modeling portfolio.
I'm excited to share some of my most recent work from a shoot with model Ashli Hazel. We worked on a series of casual fashion photos and portraits for her modeling portfolio, featuring a few different outfits and makeup looks by Grace Armas.
Whether shooting a commercial project, a model's portfolio or a corporate portrait, I cannot stress enough how important it is to invest in good hair and makeup during your photo session. It's amazing how clean, natural makeup helps the model feel more confident and makes a huge difference in the end results.
I am very happy with the variety of images we were able to pull from this half day shoot in studio. It was obviously a result of great teamwork: the model did a fantastic job and Grace's creative vision went right along with mine. Overall, one of my favorite studio shoots so far!
I've been lucky to have had the chance to take on quite a few jobs working with up and coming models and actors in Atlanta. Here are some images from a recent session with Danny, a local actor. The goal was to take some shots for his portfolio and it only seemed fitting to, in addition to the more classic portraits, try a few shots with more dramatic lighting and a few action shots, which resulted in a pretty diverse gallery. Makeup by Grace Armas.
I am always thrilled when I am presented with the opportunity to shoot advertising photography for a startup company. It is an enormous responsibility to capture the look and quality of the product while helping define the look of the brand. In this case, I worked with Heather and Daniel from Peruvian Winter Wear, an emerging accessory brand from north Geargia that is offering hand-made Peruvian scarves and shawls here in the US.
So much work goes into finding the perfect location, defining the mood and portraying the product in the best light. In cases like this, it is more than just about the product itself: There's an incredible opportunity as a photographer to be creative and produce beautiful lifestyle imagery to represent the brand.
At the end of the day, I was thrilled with the results and can't wait to see what is yet to come from Heather and Daniel’s venture! If you're interested you can order a hand-made Alpaca scarf from their Etsy page.
Lately, I have been so happy with the variety of shoots we've been booking. I've always loved a challenge that involves photographing new concepts and ideas. Being a photographer who mainly focuses on people, the best weeks are those in which I get to take portraits of individuals with distinct personalities, backgrounds, and stories to tell.
I feel lucky to not only be encountering that kind of variety in my work but to also work with people in the music industry whose artistry and personas differ from each other.
In comes Triple E: an amazing opportunity to work with such an inspiring and charismatic personality. It is truly an honor to work with fellow artists, getting to discover who the artist is and trying to represent their music through visual media. Nowadays, photography plays such a key role in representing the music industry, conveying the brand behind the music. I'm very proud to have hosted Triple E in the studio to shoot these editorial promos for his new single.
Mendy scheduled a studio session for some new head shots to update her professional profiles. She took advantage of the opportunity to change a few times during her session and we ended up with a great mix of images. Some very corporate and some more casual.
Max Bickelhaup is a lifestyle actor and model here in the Atlanta area. He's also a musician. We got together for an indie styled photo session on the Chattahoochee and here are a few of my favorites from the shoot. An added note, one of Max's photos was a featured photo on the photography app OKDOTHIS under the category of Portraits in the woods.
